Blackfish/Bass Thomas Wade Charter
We had Thomas and his buddies aboard for a Blackfish/Bass trip. Plan was to work our way to the north looking for some bass then switch gears over to blackfish as most of the guys were new to it and wanted to give it a shot. Left the dock at 7 am and made our way north looking both tight to the beach and off a couple miles for some bird activity/readings. Didnt come across anything promising at all. Decided to go right into toggin. Throughout the day we made a bunch of different moves from Long Branch to Sea Girt and all fared about the same. Would get a flurry of action right away with a keeper here and there then it would stop completely. Later on in the day the guys wanted to try to look for some bass again. Looked quite a ways to the south without any luck

Turkey Day Stripers
Took my annual Turkey trip with family and friends. With the weather we were a bit short on crew since we fished on Turkey Day itself. Had my Dad and buddies Capt Joe, Mike and Dan. Went looking for the elusive Bluefin, casted to many but none ate. Changed gears and went Striper fishing, landed a bunch keepers to 34 inches, and at least a dozen blues to 12 pounds. Great day with family and friends. Happy Turkey Day to everyone!

Jason Palmer Tuna Jiggin Trip
Had Jason on board today who bidded and won the trip I donated to the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital Foundation Silent Auction. He brought along his lovely wife Amy, and buddies Tom, Jason, and Mat. Gave them the option to jig Stripers and Blues or hunt for Bluefin and they opted to go for the Glory, told them to be careful what they wish for. Bypassed many working birds inshore and made our way to the deep, found the tuna busting everywhere. Hooked our first fish 15 minutes into the quest on a stickbait. Fought the fish for an hour lost him boatside on his last final run when he got tailwrapped. Worked some more pods and jigged seabass and blues until we got the call from "Working Girl" to head north. Found some more pods and hooked another tuna, fight only lasted a few minutes when we got tailwrapped again. Tough luck for the crew, but an awesome bunch to spend the day with.

Wilson Gama Mud Hole Trip
Had my cousin Wilson and a few of his fellow coworkers out to the mudhole for some wreckin. Headed out and was greeted with a stiff north to northeast wind. Started on a wreck in 150 foot and we had a steady pick of ling and some seabass. Alot of short seabass out in the deep. Had a few guys feeling ill for most of the trip but we stuck it out with a decent catch of 52 ling, 18 seabass and 1 keeper cod. A stop on the way home in 200 foot was dead so we made a last stop in 85 foot for a few more seabass. Rough out there but the guys who fished hard caught plenty. Hope for better weather next time.

Mixed Bag Trip with the Brandon Igdalsky Charter
Had Brandon back with brother Nick, and buddies Frank and Sacha. Started out striper fishing tried jigging and trolling only gator blues. After hours of trying and fishing over tons of bait, we tried some bottom fishing, with south current we had a constant bite, but tons of shorts, did manage to keeper seabass, tog, and porgies. Went out to the inshore grounds and try for the elusive Bluefin. Set up on the chunk and jigged while drifting, had some bluefin come through the slick but no takers. Ended doing some more stripers but no bites. Tough day today with fun group, lots of ball busting with yours truly getting some hard jabs from the crew.

The Mike Jones Charter for Bass & Blackfish
Had the Mike Jones charter out today for some bass and blackfish. We started off the day running way north looking for the striped ones that they had the day before. Found no life along the beaches all the way up to the hook, heard of a few fish caught first light up there but the bite shut down right away w/ the boat traffic. Shortly after we got there, the wind really started to blow making for very tough conditions with incoming tides and the strong w - nw wind. We reset many times but it just wasnt in the cards. The guys opted to go have fun catching some blackfish. We made a stop on the way back and had some nice blackfish action to 5#. Took a little bit to get them going but the guys managed to get their limit and release plenty more.

Allen Chung Sunday Charter
Sunday I had Allen and a few of his friends for a combo trip. We headed north to the striper grounds and when we got there birds were working pretty good but it was all blues. Looked for a while for some bass readings but we didnt find any..only blues. From there we did some bottom fishing for a few hours and got our limit of blackfish and alot of seabass which had to be returned...that sucks. We were going to shoot out to the mud hole for some cod and ling but the winds really never let down so we then headed back south to look for some bass but by the the time we got there they were shut down. Pretty frustrating day on the stripers but the guys had a great time regardless.

Canyon/Bluefin Trip with the Ken Switzer Charter
Had Ken back out with buddies John and Bill. Made a run to the East Side and saw a lot of life, but only mahi on the troll, so we broke out the light spinners and landed a bunch of fish to 10lbs, made our way to 100 square and set up there for the night. During the night we had tons of squid pinned under the boat by porpoise, read lots of tuna under the boat but they wouldn't chew. Decided at midnight to head back to the East Elbow where the life was. Set up and lost a couple of mystery fish and wrestled with big Blue Sharks. At 6am the bite started in earnest, everytime we put a bait in the water we had a run-off. Wound up with over a dozen bites, landing 4 Yellowfin from 60-75 pounds. On the way home we ran into acres of 100 pound Bluefin crashing the surface. Figured out the bait they were eating and decided to match the hatch with Large Storm Shads, made 4 casts and hooked up 4 fish landing one By a cast by John on a light spinner. Back at the dock the fish weiged 100 pounds on Clark's certified scale. Guys went home with plenty of meat and were a pleasure to fish with.

Dave Peters Mixed Bag Charter
Good to finally get out with this crazy weather Had Dave today with son Mat. Plan was to try a bunch of different species. Once we netted the live bait we headed out of the inlet and jigged a dozen Blues to 12lbs. Made a run out to the Mud Hole and began live bait chumming to look for Bluefin, had one good bite but fish spit the hook, then had some nice sized mahi eat our peanuts but couldn't connect. Mat was getting bored so we made a run back in and set on some rockpiles for seabass, landed over 40 with only half a dozen keepers. Changed gears and went togging with Mat having the hot hand, landed a couple of dozen with our boat limit of keepers. Ended the day jigging again and landed some keeper weakfish to end the day. Beautiful day with a great father/son team to fish with.

Brian McClintock Charter Blues/SeaBass
Monday we had brian and boys our for some more light tackle action. We made our way out to the grounds and set up in the same general area as sunday. After a few quick runoffs, the guys got into some non stop action with big blues. They could watch the fish swimming through grabbing their chunks right under the boat. After fighting plenty of fish they decided to try a little sea bassing. We stopped on some spots that provided plenty of sea bass with a dozen nice keepers mixed in before the wind kicked up.

Jamie McGinley Charter for Blues-Albies-Skippys-Sea Bass
On sunday we had Jamie McGinley, his son James, buddy Ed and his son Ryder out again. Our hopes were to make it out for some bluefin but the weather didnt want to cooperate with us. The guys wanted to have some fun with the kids so we decided on some light tackle action. Minutes after setting the anchor the guys were into fish with two and three fish on at a time. They fought blues with some albies and skippys mixed in until their arms were tired with the kids having an absolute blast working the jigs with non-stop action. To finish the day we stopped on a couple pieces where they had some good sea bass action putting over a dozen in the box along with some nice sized porgies.

Bluefin Tuna & Mahi Trip with the Mike Cane Charter
Had Mike out again with daughter Lauren. Goal was to have each land their first tuna and mahi. Started the trip off landing half a dozen peanut mahi, first goal accomplished. Then went jigging in with the dolphin schools and Lauren and Mike each landed a bluefin on the jigs. Having accomplished both goals we made a bee line back to the Dockside Grill for lunch so that chef Marcus could work his magic. He prepared the tuna 3 different ways. First was a Tempura with a mandarin, ginger, wasabi glaze, then a sesame seared and stuffed with shrimp and lobster with a mandarin orange, cucumber viniagrette, and finally a wasabi pistachio crusted tuna with a teriyaki and sesame oil glaze. Topped out with a bottle of High Hook Pinot Blanc to round out the meal. Great way to end a great day of firsts for the Cane family.

Bluefin Tuna with the Bob Shlutter Charter
Had out Bob Shlutter and his wife along with his sister Donna and her boyfriend. Headed out to the bluefin grounds at 430 and had the jigs in around 7. It took a little looking but we found a nice batch of fish and the charter was treated to some awsome bluefin jigging. All four of them were new to the jigging game and had also never landed a tuna prior to todays trip. Throughout the day they fought 25 bluefin bringin a dozen to the boat in the 35-55lb range. At some points we could see many other fish trailing the hooked fish around the boat. A quick stop on the way home provided some great light tackle mahi action where they were able to put a dozen in the box to top off the day!
