Open Boat Canyon Trip Tuna and Tiles

Had open boat trip with Cory, Lloyd, and Steve. Decided to
Head to the Hudson since inshore had been very inconsistent.
Put out the lines and had instant action. Some shorts at first
Then a nice 50lb yft. Pounded the area some more and got
Some more small ones. Changed gears and looked for mahi,
Couldn't find any so we dropped down for tiles and added a
Half dozen of them to the mix.

Offshore weekend of Pelagics

Saturday had the Mark Krute crew, out went everywhere,
Chicken,Bacardi,Coimbra, nothing on the troll missed
A few fish on poppers.

Sunday had the Scott Nangle and son out made the
Decison to try for tuna but the bail out would be mahi.
Ran to Bacardi, didn't like the conditions and headed
To the Hudson. Saw mahi on the pots in clean gray
Water and started nailing them, would up with a dozen
Ran inshore through chicken looking for surface fish to
Cast to, ran into a dragged that had hauled back.
Dropped a jig and had an instant bite, lost him,
Dropped another jig and fought this fish for a while,
Wound up being a 150lb brown.

Tuna Heartbreaker-Total Frustration

Had Bill, Son Willy, Buddy Andrew and buddies John and Kevin.
On the way to the grounds I noticed we had a full moon,?!
Made our way to the grounds in the am and searched for the life,
Didn't hear much going on so kept searching found a pod of whales
Off in the distance to take a better look, and marked a mother lode of
Fish, dropped in the way way back ballys and as soon as the second rod
Was set the first rod went off, knew it was a good fish! Cleared the lines,
My reels hold 1000 yards and we were down to a third of the spool already!
John did a great job regaining the line and putting heat on the fish, 45 minutes
Into the fight I got a glimpse of her! The distance from her dorsal fin to her tail
Was over 2 feet! My angler was close to tapping out and we were getting ready
To switch anglers, at that point he decided to put extra heat on her and we popped her 30 feet from hitting her with the harpoon! Ugh! Trolled till lunchtime
With no more bites. Decided to throw some spinning gear at thousands of Tuna
We spotted, no takers, had a few followers, but that was it. Horrible day of angling. But awesome day in fighting my first giant on standup on my boat,
And cool to see so many tuna on the surface!

Open Boat Midshore/Canyon trip

Had regular Mike back with new anglers Dan,
Spencer, Ken. Had no satellite shots to determine
Where I would start but went to where I have been
catching for the past month, to my surprise not a lot
Bait or life. Water had gotten dirty, after a few hours
Decided to roll the dice and run to the canyon and try
To find some Yellowfin and mahi. No luck on yellows
And mahi we saw not interested in eating. Had to get
Meat in the box and we got close to 20 tiles. Resumed
The troll and searched everywhere with no luck.

Open Boat afternoon Tuna Run

Had a great weather forecast and heard of a good late
Afternoon bite and put a quick group text out
To my regulars for a midday run in 1-2 foot seas. Jim,
And son Brett, Larry, and Ron jumped at the chance.
Got to the grounds around lunchtime after 40 knot cruise
And settled in, had just missed a decent bite and figured
With the crowds thinning out we would have a banner day.
Not! The marks and baits had thinned out and it was a grind
Able to land some unders and our first mahi of the season,
a big bull which is surprising this early. Stayed till late hoping
The fish would come on the surface for a top water bite but
never happened!

Tuna with Gus Dasilva charter

Had Gus out with the boys for some Tuna in beautiful
Conditions. started out at the Tuna grounds and a bit slow
For us, we made a change in the spread and had a
Double on of bluefin and landed the first and unfortunately
Another boat got too close and snagged our second fish losing
Him to a tangle, ugh! With boat traffic getting out of hand due
To due weekend/flat seas we changed up gears. Hit a few wrecks
With jigs and bait. It was not the action I was looking for, so we set up
For sharking. Once the baits were deployed we had a four foot
Brown shark, no luv from the glamour sharks but a nice way to
End a great day on the water. Will begin offering Open boat trips
This weekend offering this same exact trip. Details in open bait section.

Tuna with the Bret Amdor crew

Had new customer Bret with buddy Cameron, and the some of the
Most hard core girls on the planet, Abby, Lauren,'and Rebecca.
Told the girls conditions would be sporty, they didn't care.
Made the run to the bluefin grounds and found no one there, went
Into search mode and found some life, put in the spread and Lauren
Did quick work on a 35 inch bluefin. Soon after Bret went to work
On a bigger size model, in 5-7 foot swells, pulled the hook and
Decided to shark fish inshore with the sporty conditions. No luv
On the sharks but great to see some hardcore youth in the oceans.
