Live-Lining, Limit Day with Bill Staubach

Had Bill out today, goal was get live bait and liveline and chunk. Got our bait and made our way to our first spot, missed a couple of fish live-lining so we set up on the chunk on great marks. No luv just pulled hooks on more live-lined baits. Moved to a new location and Bill live-lined the first fish of the year for us which is very early. Went to the back where Bill caught one more to get his limit for before it was released. Great day on the water and good to know that we can live-line!

Striper Limit Continues

Had a couple of hours to kill this evening had my brother Ed (younger version of me in every way!), ex-mate and now Capt Joe, of ChasinTailsportfishing.com, and his buddy Steve. Decided to go big or go home made bait-bunker felt good to throw the net. No luv on the livies, chunks, or heads, wind against tide did not help. Went with the plugs and got our limit in the first half hour. All keepers with fish to 35 inches and all were fresh ocean fish.

Striper Beatdown with Larry Bruskin

Had longtime customer Larry out today who wanted to cure the cabin fever blues. That we did in the first half an hour, he landed half a dozen up to 36 inches. Tried chumming but with no current only had 1 fish, went back on the troll and bagged a bunch more and were back at the dock before lunch. Good fishing continues!

First Striper Limit of 2012

Had long time regular Anthony out today. Checked tide charts and saw diminishing wind for afternoon and took advantage of fishing relatively calm waters of Raritan Bay. Will be in Brown's Point Marina in Keyport for a couple of weeks. Started out fishing swimming plugs and had our limit in the first 15 minutes, caught and released another half dozen. Anchored up and started chumming to get them on ultra light tackle. Landed another half dozen in short order. Great start to the new year!

Miami Trip

Had my annual business-fishing trip to Miami recently. Had the pleasure of running my buddy Gunther's 26 foot Dusky once again. Made bait at the usual spot and headed out to Fowey Rock. Found the color change in the depth I wanted and put out the live bait spread. After 15 minutes we get a bite and came tight on a nice 6 foot sail. Took some pics then released her, then downed a bunch of beers. Reset the spread and came tight on another sail with a pod of 3 trailing him. Decided not to bait another in the pod and focus on the one since we were shorthanded. Released her and headed back into shore for Happy Hour. Been fortunate to have constant action without the aid of kites, and flat non-windy conditions which most Florida fishermen would think is the kiss of death. When I have those beautiful conditions I really take the time to find the right color-perfect is powder blue condition (confuses bait-easier prey), or deep blue color in 100-150 feet depths. If see flying fish and weed in this zone I put in the baits. Hope you guys have a great winter and look forward to seeing everyone in the spring.

End of Year Tog Limit

Had the afternoon open to kill some time Called my buddies Scott and John and hit some local snags to tog. Went with the whiteleggers today in nice sunny flat conditions. First 2 spots where very slow. Third spot was the charm built the life and slammed the tog, had our limit and had many quality fish with few throwbacks. Had 4 fish over 9lbs, and 2 over 10lbs. Newbie tog fisherman John, had his limit and landed 2 of the 10's and one of the nine's, told him that is the best cherry trip for a tog fisherman I ever heard of!
