Annual Peterson Charter: Sea Bass

Report from customer John Peterson:

Had our annual Charter today with Capt Max taking us out to look for sea bass.

We started with a few drops on the Axel Carson, caught a ling. Went to the mud hole hit 12 wrecks. Hit the sea girt and shark river reefs and tried many drops. Capt Max hit at least 25 spots trying to find the Sea Bass. Greg wore his arms out grappling and re-grappling. The only things that bit well were the flys and the yellow eels. We had 25 - 30 of the eels amd a continuous swarm of flies.

Finished the day with 30+ ling, mostly extra large, 2 cod and 3 sea bass. Caught at least another 15 short cod, a couple of small blackfish a short fluke and 5 of the biggest flounder I have ever seen.

We saw turtles, rays, a whale and a sun fish

Capt Fred did the best to get us a good trip, we rescheduled 3 times because either the fish had not started biting early in the season and conditions sucked on the other. We had hot but otherwise great conditions today and Capt Max and Mate Greg gave it their all as we burned a lot of gas and covered a lot of ground but the sea bass decided not to play. We still had full bags of filets to take home and had a great time fishing with good people.

The Andreas Toy is a professional operation from start to end and communicates well with the charter trying to get them the best day possible and we appreciated everything they did to give us a great trip

Side note the Coast Guard was in the inlet stopping boats, they boarded us, checked all the gear and gave the boat a passing grade. Only asked about fluke, looked in the fish box, said nice fish and continued their inspection

Bluefin-mahi

Had Evan, Rich, and his wife Carla out for a day on the bluefin grounds. Broke the inlet a little before 3am in some pea soup fog and made our way out...after a little poking around we found some good life that looked promising. Put the lines in and had fish hooked up in the first 20 min. Put a fat under fish in the boat at 45" on the first drift and lost another on the jig. Had another fish on the sardine that came unbuttoned and another bump on the jig. The guys decided they wanted to switch things up and look for some mahi. Stopped at a couple pots putting a pair of mahi in the boat...stopped at the inshore area on the way in for a while, had good life, good marks jigged away until the crew was worn out, had one bump on the jig and a 5' hammerhead take a sardine. put the trolling lines in for a while and made a few passes before the crew was ready to call it a day.

Blackfish/Bass Thomas Wade Charter

We had Thomas and his buddies aboard for a Blackfish/Bass trip. Plan was to work our way to the north looking for some bass then switch gears over to blackfish as most of the guys were new to it and wanted to give it a shot. Left the dock at 7 am and made our way north looking both tight to the beach and off a couple miles for some bird activity/readings. Didnt come across anything promising at all. Decided to go right into toggin. Throughout the day we made a bunch of different moves from Long Branch to Sea Girt and all fared about the same. Would get a flurry of action right away with a keeper here and there then it would stop completely. Later on in the day the guys wanted to try to look for some bass again. Looked quite a ways to the south without any luck

The Mike Jones Charter for Bass & Blackfish

Had the Mike Jones charter out today for some bass and blackfish. We started off the day running way north looking for the striped ones that they had the day before. Found no life along the beaches all the way up to the hook, heard of a few fish caught first light up there but the bite shut down right away w/ the boat traffic. Shortly after we got there, the wind really started to blow making for very tough conditions with incoming tides and the strong w - nw wind. We reset many times but it just wasnt in the cards. The guys opted to go have fun catching some blackfish. We made a stop on the way back and had some nice blackfish action to 5#. Took a little bit to get them going but the guys managed to get their limit and release plenty more.

Brian McClintock Charter Blues/SeaBass

Monday we had brian and boys our for some more light tackle action. We made our way out to the grounds and set up in the same general area as sunday. After a few quick runoffs, the guys got into some non stop action with big blues. They could watch the fish swimming through grabbing their chunks right under the boat. After fighting plenty of fish they decided to try a little sea bassing. We stopped on some spots that provided plenty of sea bass with a dozen nice keepers mixed in before the wind kicked up.

Jamie McGinley Charter for Blues-Albies-Skippys-Sea Bass

On sunday we had Jamie McGinley, his son James, buddy Ed and his son Ryder out again. Our hopes were to make it out for some bluefin but the weather didnt want to cooperate with us. The guys wanted to have some fun with the kids so we decided on some light tackle action. Minutes after setting the anchor the guys were into fish with two and three fish on at a time. They fought blues with some albies and skippys mixed in until their arms were tired with the kids having an absolute blast working the jigs with non-stop action. To finish the day we stopped on a couple pieces where they had some good sea bass action putting over a dozen in the box along with some nice sized porgies.

Bluefin Tuna with the Bob Shlutter Charter

Had out Bob Shlutter and his wife along with his sister Donna and her boyfriend. Headed out to the bluefin grounds at 430 and had the jigs in around 7. It took a little looking but we found a nice batch of fish and the charter was treated to some awsome bluefin jigging. All four of them were new to the jigging game and had also never landed a tuna prior to todays trip. Throughout the day they fought 25 bluefin bringin a dozen to the boat in the 35-55lb range. At some points we could see many other fish trailing the hooked fish around the boat. A quick stop on the way home provided some great light tackle mahi action where they were able to put a dozen in the box to top off the day!

On the way home we stopped on a few pieces for some sea bass and wound up with a dozen keeper sea bass and one nice blackfish.

In total they had 10 fish on and boated some beautiful bluefin! Later on in the day we had some mahi cruise by and were able to put a few of them in the box as well up to about 10lbs. Split Trip Zullo-Nitske Sea Bass/ River Fluke

Yesterday we had a split trip starting off with Jim Zullo, wife Tonya and sons Jonathan and Lyle. The kids wanted some action so we decided to go out and do a little sea bassing. Hit a few spots about 5 miles from the inlet where the kids had non-stop action and we were able to get a dozen keepers in about two hours of fishing. After a little while one of the little guys wasnt feeling well so we finished up the trip with a little river fluking. After dropping off the Zullo family, we headed back out with Frank Nitske, wife Jo, sons Brandon and Justin, and daughter Ashley. They also wanted to head out and try for some sea bass as well. We started where we left off an hour earlier and the kids had steady action with drop and reel sea bass. They were able to box 27 keepers along with a nice cod in just under 3 hours of fishing!!! All the kids had a blast today catching plenty of fish each!

Adam Szewczyk River Fluke & Sea Bass Trip

Had Adam and crew out yesterday and with the updated forecast we made the decision to start the day off in the river with a little fluking, in hopes that the wind might lay down a bit for us to hit a few snags close by as the morning went on. The guys had great action in the river catching tons of short fluke for a few hours to stat off the day. Around 9:30 ish we decided to take a look out front and decided to hit a snag a few miles from the inlet. It was a bit bumpy and made it tough anchoring conditions but the guys managed some nice keepers. We decided to head in prior to the strong outgoing tide and finish the day in the river where the guys had more constant action with short fluke.

Canyon Trip with Brian Priest, Marlin-Mahi

Had Brian charter the boat today. Had co-captains Max and Keith to assist on today's adventure. Plan was to get away from the crowd and work the deep and seldom hit canyons to look for Tuna and Billfish. Started the day on a right note getting Andrea's Toy first Marlin, nice fish taped out at 60 inches. Hit a dressed bally. Got our first and only tuna bite of the day getting 4 on to have two come unbuttoned quickly, got the other 2 close to the boat, however at the same time which turned bad. They both got tangled and lost both damn! However, we wound up landing and releasing 2 more white Marlin going 3-3 then, having a huge 500 pound Marlin hit our bally and dump half of a fifty on the first run, then double back and jump us off. Ended the day pot hopping for Mahi. Congrats to Brian on his first Marlin, and to the crew of landing our first, 3 Marlin.

Jamie McGinley Charter for Sea Bass

Today we had Jamie, son James, friend Ed, his son Ryder and their buddy Carlos out for some seabass. Left the dock around 830 and were on our way. We stopped at our first spot and had steady action for a couple of hours with plenty of keepers coming into the boat. Once the tide stopped the fish turned off completely. We bumped around to a few more spots picking away at some nice seabass and some fat ling. Made one last drop and had a nice flurry of keepers to finish it off. The guys called it early to go home and start up the grills! Ended up the day with 50 keeper sea bass and 7 nice ling. Also had some nice blackfish (released) and some short cod mixed in.

Dr. Tino Charter Striped Bass/Fluke & Sea Bass

Had the guys from Connecticut out (Dr. Tino, his friend, and son Nikki). The plan for the day was to look for some bass first thing then switch over to some bottom fishing after a few hours. We worked some bunker pods hard for the first few hours to no avail. We stuck inshore as little Nikki wasn't feeling to well and hit some local spots. We picked away at some short fluke and sea bass with a handful of keepers mixed in. Nikki was still feeling a little under the weather so we ran in and did some river fluking for a few hours to round out the trip where we picked up about 30-40 shorts and one nice 20" keeper. Also got some very nice blackfish today (released)

George Turner Charter - Striped Bass/Sea Bass

On Monday I had out George Turner, his brother Richie and son Kyle. Kyle is getting deployed to Afghanistan shortly and really wanted to catch his first striper before he left so off we went. The first hour or so was very tough with some chop on the water making it very hard to see bait. After some searching we found a pod up tight that looked pretty good. After working it over a bit Kyle was able to put his first bass in the boat, a nice 20lber! That would be it for the bass for the rest of the day as we worked many other pods with no luck. We headed out to some local stuff and picked away at the Sea bass with steady action and some keepers mixed in. Good Luck Kyle and Stay Safe!

John Neidzinski Striper-Sebass Charter

Capt Max had out John, his family and buddies for a mixed bag trip. Started the day seabassing and they landed over 30 keepers to 3 lbs. Later in the trip they switched over and had a slow bite. However, they did get one shot and they made it count landing a 40 lbs Striped Bass certified scale at Clark's Landing Marina.
