Had Santiago out with Son Andrew and buddies
Woody and Tony. Plan was to shark fish the mudhole with
Uncertain weather, at the dock wind wasn’t too bad
So pointed the bow towards the chicken, after no bites and
Barely life had to make a decision. Seas had gotten nicer so
I gave the charter an option to sprint to the Hudson and fish a few
Hours which they jumped on Started on the pots and got some nice
gaffer mahi, first ones of the year. Then went on the troll getting 2
Yellowfin right away, after an hour of no luv went back to the mahi
and got some more to end the day.

Open Boat Mudhole Trip-Big Thresher
Had Newcomers to the boat Mike, Corey and Gary.
Original plan was to hit the canyon for a day trip
But didn't like afternoon forecast. Stayed inshore
So we netted a livewell pull of peanuts and headed to the
Grounds, water was cold and somewhat clean so decided
To chunk for tuna instead of mahi fish. Put out our spread
And the deep bait gets picked up. Corey and Mike did a
Great job on the fish and had the 300lb thresher boatside
In a little under 45 minutes. Continued chunking no takers
Tried trolling no takers, hit a few lumps to jig again nothing.
Guys decided to head in as the wind started to pick up.
Good guys that will enjoy some fresh steaks!

Canyon Mixed Bag with the Mitch Glazier charter
Had new customer Mitch on board with brother Jay
With buddies Brendan and Brian. Mitch wanted to
Experience the whole canyon experience catching
Multi species. Made great time to the canyons and started
On the troll along pods of bait, no luv. Decided to
Drop down for tiles to get some meat in the box
Landed a 30lb tile to start the trip. Soon after heard
The tuna were waking up, went back on troll and landed
A longfin, tried that for a few but not great action.
Changed gears and went on the search for mahi,
Found a pot that was loaded and banged over 20 mahi on
Light tackle. Went back on the troll still slow ended
Up the trip bagging some more tiles to end the day.
Plenty of action for a bunch of fun guys.

Canyon Tuna with Mike Terell
Had new customer Mike with son Damien and buddy
Gonzalo from Argentina on board. Had this weekend to
Make the trip happen, Mother Nature gave me a very
Small window yesterday and we Took the shot. Got to the
Canyon after the bite was over due to morning storm,
Had our first bite in 5 minutes boxing a 70lb yellow,
Had some more misses and lost a fish, then things slowed.
Found another body of fish missed a few more and lost
A marlin. Knew I had an hour to get some mahi before the
Weather window slammed shut on me, found tons of mahi
But not sure if approaching front or full moon had them on
Lockjaw so we made the sprint home early.

Canyon Trip with Oscar Carillo/Boat Record
Had long time offshore boat regular Oscar with
Buddies Ray, Steve, and Curt. Guys booked the trip
As a tile/mahi trip only. Started out with tiles had
A decent pick of 20 tiles till the right one hit, Oscar
Handled the fish and boxed a 42LB! Hit pots for mahi
And landed half a dozen. Decided to troll for an hour
Before heading home. 5 minutes into the troll, we
Hooked into bigeye, Oscar did a great job on the
Rod, but hooked pull 50 feet from meeting the steel.

Had open boat trip with Cory, Lloyd, and Steve. Decided to
Head to the Hudson since inshore had been very inconsistent.
Put out the lines and had instant action. Some shorts at first
Then a nice 50lb yft. Pounded the area some more and got
Some more small ones. Changed gears and looked for mahi,
Couldn't find any so we dropped down for tiles and added a
Half dozen of them to the mix.

Offshore weekend of Pelagics
Saturday had the Mark Krute crew, out went everywhere,
Chicken,Bacardi,Coimbra, nothing on the troll missed
A few fish on poppers.
Sunday had the Scott Nangle and son out made the
Decison to try for tuna but the bail out would be mahi.
Ran to Bacardi, didn't like the conditions and headed
To the Hudson. Saw mahi on the pots in clean gray
Water and started nailing them, would up with a dozen
Ran inshore through chicken looking for surface fish to
Cast to, ran into a dragged that had hauled back.
Dropped a jig and had an instant bite, lost him,
Dropped another jig and fought this fish for a while,
Wound up being a 150lb brown.

Open Boat Midshore/Canyon trip
Had regular Mike back with new anglers Dan,
Spencer, Ken. Had no satellite shots to determine
Where I would start but went to where I have been
catching for the past month, to my surprise not a lot
Bait or life. Water had gotten dirty, after a few hours
Decided to roll the dice and run to the canyon and try
To find some Yellowfin and mahi. No luck on yellows
And mahi we saw not interested in eating. Had to get
Meat in the box and we got close to 20 tiles. Resumed
The troll and searched everywhere with no luck.

Open Boat afternoon Tuna Run
Had a great weather forecast and heard of a good late
Afternoon bite and put a quick group text out
To my regulars for a midday run in 1-2 foot seas. Jim,
And son Brett, Larry, and Ron jumped at the chance.
Got to the grounds around lunchtime after 40 knot cruise
And settled in, had just missed a decent bite and figured
With the crowds thinning out we would have a banner day.
Not! The marks and baits had thinned out and it was a grind
Able to land some unders and our first mahi of the season,
a big bull which is surprising this early. Stayed till late hoping
The fish would come on the surface for a top water bite but
never happened!

Mahi bonanza with the Oscar Carillo charter
Had longtime regular Oscar out with buddies Bobby and Nate. Plan was to do some trolling and pot hop. Seems like a trend has been happening after hearing of slow trolling they opted to start pot hopping and was hard to get them to change Gears. Oscars buddies were new to it but once they got the hang of it was game on. Landed over 30 to 15lbs.
Pool Winner!

Had Randy out with buddies Tom Carl and Mat. Started out boxing a dozen Mahi
To get the trip started. Soon after went on the troll for the evening mixing up
The spread to target both Marlin and tuna. Had success getting the Marlin to
Come into the spread getting 3 bites missing the first two and jumping off
The third. Set up for a night of chunking after trolling late into the night.
Had one mystery runoff and went on the troll in the morning. Concentrated
On Tuna until the charter said enough and wanted to finish off with Mahi.
Wound up boxing another 20 Mahi to 20lbs.

Open Boat Mahi Fest
Tony, Lamar, and TJ on board today for an open boat canyon trip.
Crew decided at the dock that they wanted bent rod action, and
Anything else was an after thought . Offered light tackle Mahi. Guys said
That's the plan, so we went Mahi fishing, after 80 bites, 60 fish landed
And our limit harvested, the guys had little interest in trolling for tuna
And Marlin or drifting for tilefish. Fun day today guys!

Canyon trip with Larry/Scott and sons
Had Larry back with son Andrew and Scott with son Zach. Plan was to go
For bluefins but saw some nice water sliding into the canyon and decided
To make a report vs follow one. Got to the spot and water was a nice 78
Degrees and cobalt blue! Saw big Mahis and started off the trip banging a
Dozen of them. Set up in the troll and marked no fish or bait. Decided to
Pick up the lines and search after 10 miles of running we found the fish and
Life all kinds of mammals and bait. Few boats that were there first had a good
Bite of yellowfin and bigeye. We put in the lines and went to work, fortunately
Got tuna bites but not the ones we wanted all were rat size yellowfin. Wound
Up having 2 come up then had another 4 banger come up. Pounded the area
But no big fish for us damn! Still great to be back in the canyon.

Canyon Canyon-Inshore Mixed Bag
Had a weather window and decided to make a trip quick to the canyon,
Had a last minute cancellation but mates wanted to make the trip. Got to the
Canyon and night was slow only landing a longfin and sharks. In the morning
During daylight hours decided to put in the time and it payed off! Around 8am
The fish went in the feed, had to drop to 25 flouro but had 10 bites, only got
3 to the boat but well worth it to get the bites. Jigged some Mahi, then ended the trip inshore seabassing.

Mixed mid shore trip with Tony Shalaby
Took advantage of a small weather window today to get out. Tony wanted
Some Mahi then some bottom fish. Went looking for Mahis and did not
Find clean water until we were 40 miles out, finally found the Mahi but it
Was slim pickings. Hit wrecks for the remainder of the trip landing a dozen
Ling, pollack, and cod. Glad we got out cause it's going to blow for at least a week!
