Told them todays trip would be Captains choice only going for what made sense. Cleared The inlet and saw conditions were fine. Ran east until I Saw clean water found it 30 miles off. Talking to other boats With no tuna action decided to drift wrecks for bottom fish And sharks. Had Pollack, Cod, ling and seabass, when the Sharks Showed up Bill JR landed the biggest fish of his life, a 6 foot shark!

Got a call from Regulars Adam and Larry with a severe case of cabin fever, felt the same to get my fish itch scratched. Rounded up a crew with Mike and Josh filling in and watched the weather. Had a very small weather window and made our way offshore, hit a wreck which I didnt suspect had much on it, wrong! First drift had 5lb seabass coming up with nice market sized cod. Came back around anchored and pounded the wreck for an hour, landed over half a dozen cod to 15lbs, and over 50 Seabass to 6lbs. With wind beginning to honk we headed back in with one of the boxes loaded up. |
Had first timer Jim on board with son Brett and buddie Stan. Made our way to the Bluefin grounds for an afternoon trip, got there after lunch and looked for the life. Saw a small pack of tuna chicks on a nice oil bait slick, first drop we jigged a nice 55 incher, 80lbr that all the guys took a turn on, landed him and went searching for more. Had the marks but no bite, with a nice over in the box we changed gears because Jim wanted some Cod for his "Cod Casino recipe". Hit a wreck and had fish up to 20lbs. Nice afternoon trip for a good crew.
Had John out for his bachelor party with buddies Anthony, Ron and John. Orginally they wanted to fluke fish, told him if weather was right we should move off a bit further, he agreed. Left the inlet to flat seas poked around some inshore lumps but all it was all Hammerhead and Brown sharks which were fun on spinning rods, after a morning of shark action we hit some wrecks getting over 30 Ling and Cod. Good luck on your marriage and had fun fishing with your crew.
Had regulars Larry and Murry, with newcomers Ron and his son Ranger. Started out finding the life I wanted right away and released our first Tuna in the first 5 minutes, had a slow pick on the troll for the rest of the morning. Did have some nice fish going 3-4 on fish to 50lbs. Tried chunking and jigging and had nice Mahi to 10lbs. Wound up the day hitting some wrecks and had half a dozen baseball bat ling and Cod to 20lbs.
Had newcomers to the boat John, Jeremy, Fran and his brother Tom. Left the inlet in the dark to get to the spot early. Half a dozen boats there and thousands of tuna chicks! Was going to troll but the machine had lots of good marks so we started jigging, had one on right way, nice job John. Decided to troll to find some bigger models, Jeremy was up next popping his Tuna cherry. Went back on the jig and the Foley brothers landed theirs, tagged and released some more. Since everyone had landed one we decided to look for mahi, found a pot with a bunch of gaffers but only landed one and losing the rest. Hit a few wrecks on the way home to nail a dozen cod and ling. Lots of fun with a bunch of new anglers to the TOY!
Had Oscar back out for his fill the freezer trip. First wreck he landed half a dozen cod to start the trip. after that action slowed we changed gears and went on the hunt for Bluefin. Had 72 degree clean green water but after a few hours of no luck hit another couple of wrecks. Had a decent pick of seabass and ling to finish the day. Enjoy the eats Oscar!
Had Adam out for the first time offshore after numerous Striper trips. He had is usual buddies of Mike, Pat and Andy. Due to hectic shedules we made the run today in less than favorable conditions, got to our spot and saw lots of life, birds, whales, turtles, marking bait and fish. On the troll we had knockdowns but big seas made it tough to troll. Hit a wreck and bagged a dozen nice Cod and Baseball bat ling. Went on the drift chunking and jigging, the Brown Sharks and Bluefish made getting the baits to tuna impossible. On the way home hit a wreck for 20 keeper seabass and ling.
Had Oscar back again this year for his first trip offshore this year. Started out trolling for tuna but not a lot of life, hit a wreck and began jigging, got a few cod and decided to try some sharking, no wind and calm conditions made it difficult to get a good shark drift, nonetheless Oscar still battled a 10 foot Blue Shark. Shifted gear and went to another wreck, had good action landing another half dozen cod to 15lbs, and monster ling, great ending to a beautiful day!
Had John on board with Paul his son Bryce and buddy Craig. Plan was to try for tuna, get Bryce his first shark and jig some cod and pollack. Found some life and started trolling, after 5 miles of no touches picked up and ran to another spot another 5 miles of no bites and I changed gears to keep the crew engaged. Hit a wreck and jigged up Pollack and nice Cod. Once we had a nice box of tasty treats we went into shark mode. Had a perfect drift and Bryce landed his first shark, the bites came every 15 minutes landed close to a dozen blue sharks, until the makos showed up. First one was a legal but small Mako that gave us 3 great jumps, tagged that one and waited for the right one. Next one was the one, John fought her for a while and tailroped a beautiful 83 incher. Scales were closed, but she was fat estimate 220-240.
Had Capt Joe D, Ant, Mike for some bottom fish. The plan was to tog, but with 5-6 foot swells we went offshore to start the day. Landed some nice cod to 25 inches, lots of ling and porgies. came back inshore got half a dozen tog to 2lbs, and some nice seabass.
Had Wilson back with buddies Gary, John, and Rick x2. Plan was to venture to Mudhole and load up on Ling, had 80 with some cod. Changed gears to seabassing landing a dozen of those before south wind kicked in. Fun day with some good guys and lots of ball-busting.
Had first time customer Paul out with lovely daughters Jessica and Lauren, and friends Bill and Matt. Plan was to live-line stripers, due to work schedules and timing felt an offshore run might be more fun and a change of pace for entire crew. Paul agreed, left the dock late morning and headed to some water that looked good on the charts. Got there had good water clarity and temps, some boats had already landed bluefin, but bite had tapered off, put in the lines and had Big Matt up for his first saltwater fish, landed some 10lb falsies to start the trip, with the girls landing them as well. Decided to hit a local wreck so the crew could try something differed landed a nice cod, and dozen ling to add to the catch. Changed gears and went into shark mode, put in the chum and had sharks into our slick immediately, hooked close to a dozen sharks up to 8 feet, with everyone fighting their fare share. At the end we where using spinning rods and sight fishing them. Good times with a great crew.
Had Hard-core regulars Sam M, Ed-Eamon, and Bill. Plan was to run way offshore and jig Cod and Pollack, then hit inshore wrecks for jumbo seabass that haven't made the offshore wrecks. Made good time to the 70 mile wrecks while sun was coming up, tons of Humpback porgies that are not llegal and bluefish. Very few big seabass and Pollack or Cod. Hit a few more wrecks same deal. Went inshore and found some humpback seabass, more porgies and doggies. Hit another piece and ran out of daylight. Wound up with 2 dozen keeper seabass to 5lbs, over 60 big porgies. Want to thank the guys for fishing hard in tough sea conditions, NOAA, got it wrong, 20-25 knot winds in 4-7 foot seas.
Had Chuck out today, with Buddies Bobx2, Lenny, Herb, and Frank. Started out togging, hit 3 different pieces with little to show for it, changed gears and ran offshore, had nice pick for rest of the day. Ended up with close to 40 Seabass, 20 Ling, half a dozen Cod, and 2lb Bergall!
