Good Tuna/Shark fishing with the Regulars

Had longtime repeat customers Jeremy, Gary, Damon
And John. Plan was to hit the canyons but with insane
Action short of it had to stop! Had Tuna all over the surface
Had 2 on first pass, had out over and under limit by 9am and
Was in release mode. Decided to try a shark drift, half an hour
In the right fish shows up. Battled her for about half an hour
And had her tailroped. Back at Hoffman by lunchtime weighing
In a nice 292lb Mako. After we celebrated having mako 3 different
Ways at the Ark, what a way to end a great fishing morning!

Tuna with Ricardi Crew

Had John Henry one of my ex players, uncle John, and buddies
Anthony and Pete out. Started out inshore where the life was
And decided to head to canyon for mixed bag of species, bad
Move! Got to canyon and fishing was spotty at best some caught
Most didn’t, we were one we got skunked. Tried mahi fishing but
3-4 knot current kept the mahi from biting. Tilefishing was out of
The question. Found a log and bagged a bunch of triggers and almaco
Jacks. Decided to try inshore spot to save the trip, found a school of
yellowfin on top and it was game on, had fish blowing up the spread!
One of my most challenging and satisfying trips of my career!

Canyon Quickie with Santiago crew

Had Santiago out with Son Andrew and buddies
Woody and Tony. Plan was to shark fish the mudhole with
Uncertain weather, at the dock wind wasn’t too bad
So pointed the bow towards the chicken, after no bites and
Barely life had to make a decision. Seas had gotten nicer so
I gave the charter an option to sprint to the Hudson and fish a few
Hours which they jumped on Started on the pots and got some nice
gaffer mahi, first ones of the year. Then went on the troll getting 2
Yellowfin right away, after an hour of no luv went back to the mahi
and got some more to end the day.

Inside of the canyon popping a couple of cherries
Early, once that dried up continued to the canyon
Checked many places but no luv, hit the pots and
They were barren. Decided to deep drop, man was it
On, landed over dozen with Golden’s to 22lbs, bluelines
To 18, and a snowy grouper over 30lbs! After that headed
Back to where we had the yellows but no luv for us.
Awesome day with some great guys!

Canyon Trip with the Brian Kohute Family

Had Brian with Son Gavin and nephew Garrett. Took
Them out for their first canyon trip ever, plan was to
Get them a wide variety of action and best experience
Possible and I think we accomplished that. Took a
40 knot cruise to the grounds and began the search,
canyon we picked was slow so decided to change gears
And drop for Tiles until the tuna woke up. Had each guy
Land their first Tiles and they were big had two 30lb pounders
Right away. Went back to trolling and ran across two Huge
Blue marlin that wouldn’t commit, had each guy land their
First tunas and then hit the pots for mahi. Water was warm 77
And clean but no takers. Ran inshore To look for bluefin and
Found the life, whales, Mola’s, birds, bait and tons of marks
Was able to pull a nice yellowfin out of the area and decided
Time to go home, cruised home at 40 knots on calm seas!

Andreas Toy Bluefin Open Boat trip for Overs!

Had regulars Todd, Rob Bill, Willy and new comer
Jim. Started out looking for schoolies since it was 2
of the guys first Tuna run. With the sketchy reports
Gave the guys the option to run to the land of the
Jumbos for strictly over fish. They said go big or
Go home. Made our way to the grounds and patiently
Waited for our shot and it came and the guys made it
Count. With a team effort they landed a 200lb bluefin,
Great job guys.

Bluefin with Oscar Carillo

Had Oscar back with Ernesto and Randy. Started out
On the bluefin grounds and had found the life. Had a 42
incher in the first pass and figured it would be lights out.
Not! Stayed with bluefin for an hour and couldn’t get another
Bite. Decided to head to the canyon got to the edge and heard
Slow fishing on the tuna so we dropped for Tiles. Had one right away
But bad drift made for terrible fishing. Went on the troll for a few hours
And still slow. Decided to run back inside and found Blue Planet/Nat Geo
Conditions, whales, dolphins, birds, and tuna slashing sand eels on the
surface. Tried everything, every trolling lure and casted everything we
Had but no bites.

Open Boat Mudhole Trip-Big Thresher

Had Newcomers to the boat Mike, Corey and Gary.
Original plan was to hit the canyon for a day trip
But didn't like afternoon forecast. Stayed inshore
So we netted a livewell pull of peanuts and headed to the
Grounds, water was cold and somewhat clean so decided
To chunk for tuna instead of mahi fish. Put out our spread
And the deep bait gets picked up. Corey and Mike did a
Great job on the fish and had the 300lb thresher boatside
In a little under 45 minutes. Continued chunking no takers
Tried trolling no takers, hit a few lumps to jig again nothing.
Guys decided to head in as the wind started to pick up.
Good guys that will enjoy some fresh steaks!

Canyon Mixed Bag with the Mitch Glazier charter

Had new customer Mitch on board with brother Jay
With buddies Brendan and Brian. Mitch wanted to
Experience the whole canyon experience catching
Multi species. Made great time to the canyons and started
On the troll along pods of bait, no luv. Decided to
Drop down for tiles to get some meat in the box
Landed a 30lb tile to start the trip. Soon after heard
The tuna were waking up, went back on troll and landed
A longfin, tried that for a few but not great action.
Changed gears and went on the search for mahi,
Found a pot that was loaded and banged over 20 mahi on
Light tackle. Went back on the troll still slow ended
Up the trip bagging some more tiles to end the day.

Canyon Tuna with Mike Terell

Had new customer Mike with son Damien and buddy
Gonzalo from Argentina on board. Had this weekend to
Make the trip happen, Mother Nature gave me a very
Small window yesterday and we Took the shot. Got to the
Canyon after the bite was over due to morning storm,
Had our first bite in 5 minutes boxing a 70lb yellow,
Had some more misses and lost a fish, then things slowed.
Found another body of fish missed a few more and lost
A marlin. Knew I had an hour to get some mahi before the
Weather window slammed shut on me, found tons of mahi
But not sure if approaching front or full moon had them on
Lockjaw so we made the sprint home early.
