Good Tuna/Shark fishing with the Regulars

Had longtime repeat customers Jeremy, Gary, Damon
And John. Plan was to hit the canyons but with insane
Action short of it had to stop! Had Tuna all over the surface
Had 2 on first pass, had out over and under limit by 9am and
Was in release mode. Decided to try a shark drift, half an hour
In the right fish shows up. Battled her for about half an hour
And had her tailroped. Back at Hoffman by lunchtime weighing
In a nice 292lb Mako. After we celebrated having mako 3 different
Ways at the Ark, what a way to end a great fishing morning!

Mako Shark Fishing with Tese Family Charter

Had the pleasure of having my web designer Mike T. who has been instrumental in my success from day one when I started Andreas Toy. In 15 years we have known each other this was the first charter he did with us. Had his cousins Sammy with sons Mike & James, and in-law Andy. Started getting fresh bait for sharks, bunker, mackerel, and bluefish. Did our first drift but horrible conditions no wind. Went to second spot and there was tons of bait in the waters and wind gave us a good drift. We had a Hammerhead make an appearance and moved around the boat but moved on.  Getting ready to move to spot 3 when the Mako hit a deep bait, had a nice 55 incher handled by Mike T. himself. Harvested him for the grill and and as we were clearing lines to head to the barn, another rod goes off. Sammy's son Mike S. jumps on and makes short work of a 4 foot brown. Great day by the team and we decided to head to the Clark's Landing Dockside Grill to have the chef perform his magic!

Sammy's son Mike S. with his Brown Shark:
Chef Mike (at the Clarks Landing Dockside Grill) prepared the Mako 4 different ways. Appetizer teriyaki glazed and Main course blackened with horseradish sauce, broiled with mango salsa and a spicy Thai chili sauce!  YUM!  The perfect meal for a perfect day!

Canyon Trip with the "Regulars"

Had repeat canyon crew Dan Bombaci, Art Hoover, and Dan Payet. These guys had have some memorable canyon trips, however this one was not the one. Heard off tough reports in Hudson so went south, got to the canyon and found clean 71 degree water, started the troll landed some skippies and lost our first good bite. Went into chunk mode and battled Pup Mako, and Blue sharks throughout the night. Did land a couple of gaffer mahi, but no tuna. Went on the troll and landed more skippies, some more gaffer mahi and our lone Longfin. Tough trip, but guys busted my stones, but appreciated the effort!

Hudson Canyon Tuna, Mako, Mahi Split Charter

Had regulars Larry Brusskin and Art Hoover with newcomers Glen Palmer and Chris Messick. Left the inlet with a game plan but mother nature had other ideas, slugged it out to the Hudson and had intentions to start in the deep, but put the lines in 20 miles short of the target, saw the life and pounded the area, slow pick but had two nice yellows landed by Glenn and Larry, and a nice bull by Chris. bonus fish was Art's 70 inch, 150lb Mako Shark, his personal best. Went on the drift for swords and sharks, but only wrestled 3 Blue sharks to 8ft, in the morning went back on the troll and got covered up by skippies in tough 3-6ft head sea conditions, couldn't drift for tiles because of the conditions so changed gears, and targeted Mahi on structure. Landed another half dozen chicken Mahi on light tackle. Tough weather forecast that changed while we were out there, but my determined crew slugged it out. To end the trip on a great note I had Master Chef Marcus Wilson from the Dockside Grill make the magic happen. Gave him some Mahi and mako and told him to let his imagination take over. He prepared the Mahi in a spicy lobster creme sauce and also in a teriyaki Asian fusion, the Mako he prepared Mediterranean style, also blackened with fresh garlic clusters, and finally in a tomato spicy saltine crusted sauce. Finished it off with some Pinot Blanc from High Hook wines.

Tuna, Tilefish & Shark with the John Toronto Charter

Had John for his yearly tuna run with buddy Dan Payet. decided to make a short notice run to the Hudson due to great weather forecast and recent catches. On the way to the canyon stopped and did a quick troll at the Chicken after seeing great signs of fish no luck. Ran to the east side and started the troll, went evening into dark with no touches. Set up on the drift and Dan landed a 10ft blue shark, had a mako in the slick that wouldn't eat. went on the morning troll and landed the first tuna of the year a nice 35lb yellow. Didn't get any more bites so we decided to load the box up. Went on the hunt for tiles and filled up one of the boxes with 2 dozen tiles. Heard that there was some more bites we went back on the troll still no bites. Headed inshore to look for Bluefin tuna and more sharks. Had the signs but no tuna, did get a chance to bait a nice mako, he circled the bait, but took off. Beautiful day with some hardcore anglers.

Todd Moyer Midshore Trip Sharks/Cod

Had Todd and his crew back out again today brother Rob, Dave, and Josh. After yesterday's trip and unreal dinner from last night. The Dockside Grill at Clark Landing's Marina cooked up our Cod and Sea bass 3 different ways topped off off with some High Hook Pinot Blanc, Oregon Vineyard it was hard to get up this morning. However, it was my first Pelagic trip so I had the crew at the boat early. Made the run to last year's hot spot and found the bait and life, whales, dolphins, and sand eels. Had great marks threw the meat and jigged but only bluefish. Pushed off farther to the southeast and didn't have the life I wanted so we started sharking. Tons of action. hooked over 20 Blue sharks to 10 feet. Started using light tackle spinning rod as 2 or 3 fish stayed around the boat the whole time. Water temps 63 and clean green. Did have a Mako do a bunch of free jumps right in the slick but he never committed to any of our baits. After the shark workout we went on the hunt for Tuna's found the life again, football field patches of dark red water, krill being eaten by big sand eels, jigged and threw the meat but no tuna just bluefish. Ended the day hitting a wreck and landing a dozen market sized cod.
